The BBC News School Report Award Winners 2008 -
Banbury School

On Friday 16th May we were very lucky to attend the BBC Television Centre in London to receive an award for our work on the BBC News School Report: A project which Year 8s, with support from older students, have been involved with for many months. There were about 250 schools from across the country who took part in this project and Banbury School came in the top 25 to receive the award.
The students were presented with a framed certificate which says, ‘Banbury School is highly commended for their school news report’, and there was even greater excitement when the students realised it was Adam Fleming from BBC One’s Newsround who was doing the presenting! Lots of pics and autographs!
After the award lunch we were treated to a tour of the BBC studios where the students witnessed live news being presented and even had a go at presenting a Newsround-style programme in a TV studio (including auto-cue and canned laughter).
The day was completed with a BBC goodie bag, a glimpse of Graham Norton and a photo-shoot on the red carpet. A really brilliant day, which was much deserved, for all the students involved, for all their hard work and the commitment they have given this project. They are now looking forward to helping the Year 8s out next year – hopefully to add to our awards!
