American Views on Britain's free choice
Americans feel it is good to pledge allegiance but it should be our free choice to do so in Britain.
Earlier this day we travelled to Wroxton American college to find out how American citizens felt on the subject of pledging allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
I spoke to three American girls from New Jersey and Delaware who are attending school here in England. Their three names were Jamie, Lauren and Katie. The girls felt strongly about pledging allegiance to their flag. They said when they were younger that they felt it was just something they had to do but now they thought it was a great thing and are happy that they do it everyday.
When I asked Jamie on her opinion, she said ‘when I went to Bloxham School I was surprised to see no flags of Great Britain or England in the classroom and I felt that it was a bit strange and abnormal that people didn’t show that they belong to a country every morning.’
When I asked Lauren on how the people who didn’t want to pledge their allegiance react to it, she just said they stand and keep silent to show respect for the people who want to show their feelings for their home nation.
All the girls were agreed to the fact that they thought it was the right thing to do but it should definitely be down to the individual if they wanted to do so or not.
