SCHOOL REPORT DAY 13 MARCH 2008

Our day out in London to meet and interview Nick Clegg

On Tuesday March 11th six year 8 students from Banbury School went down to London to interview the leader of the Liberal Democrats Party, Mr Nick Clegg. My name is Chantelle reporting on what we did when we were in London.

We all had to meet at Banbury train station at 8.45am and we got on the train at 9.15am.  We travelled on the train for about an hour and a half .We got to London Marylebone to get on to the underground. We went on really steep escalators!

When we got down to the underground it was windy because of the speed of the train. When we were on the underground it took us about 5 minutes to stop at six stops. And then we were in the centre of London!

We made our way to the London Eye but before we got on the London Eye we saw human statues, covered in silver and even a chameleon and a Wizard!

Then we got on the London Eye, we took lots of pictures of Big Ben and the River Thames.  When we were at the top if did not feel like you were 135 metres high but the people were really small.  It took us about 30 minutes to get around. When you get on and off it does not stop so it feels really funny.

After the London eye we then went to get something to eat, the boys went to Subway and the girls and the teachers, which happened to be girls as well, went to a civilized café (to eat 'healthy' cakes!)

After we had something to eat we made our way to the BBC studio which is called Milbank.   We worked on our questions to make sure they were perfect. Then we went outside to practise our questions besides the Houses of Parliament, Westminster. Before we went to see Nick Clegg we had a brilliant chance to go and visit the House of Lords – loads of security. We watched a debate about climate change.

Then we made our way to Nick Clegg‘s office. Before he came in I was really nervous because I had to sit right next to him .But when he came in he was really lovely and made me fell really welcome.  After we asked him our questions we asked him for his autograph and we all got a signed photo.

Then we went back to Millbank and we did a phone interview with Simon Pipe who is a journalist at BBC Radio Oxford and we told him every thing we had asked Nick Clegg and how we felt about it all. Then we were on the train back to Banbury, where we had a good laugh!  When we got to Banbury we had to wait for our parents; I do not know about the others but I was really tired and I went to bed really early.

And that is what I did on the 11th of March 2008. A day to remember for life!!
