The aim of the tutor programme is to give each student the opportunity to work with his or her tutor and peers. A variety of topics are explored; eg. time management, study skills and target setting. Tutors work with individual students to support learning and to address any issues or concerns. Careers education is also a focus. Daily registration at 8.50am with the tutor is a basic expectation.
In the Sixth Form there are a number of days when the normal timetable is suspended for students to take part in our Creative Learning days. These are designed to inform, challenge, provoke and empower all individuals.
We think it is really important for students who compete competitively to continue stretching and challenging themselves and so we have hockey, netball, football and rugby teams that can be joined. We also think it is important for everyone to keep fit and organise fun sports and workshops for students to try something new. Every year one of the enrichment choices is sports focused and a sports leaders’ certificate can even be gained!
We believe it is important to encourage our awareness of those who are less advantaged than we are.
To do this all Year 12 students commit themselves to do at least one hour of community activity per week. Many of our current Year 13 have so enjoyed their Year 12 activity they have extended it into Year 13 on a voluntary
basis. Not only do students develop skills in working with others but this work is of immense benefit to those supported. Students help in Banbury School lessons, at Frank Wise Special School, Katharine House Hospice, the Horton Hospital, in charity shops and with peer counselling. The choice is the student’s.
All our Sixth Form tutors are trained to provide students with the best guidance possible. With tutors, students discuss ways of raising performance, set targets and write student action plans to achieve those targets. These sessions reflect our commitment to improving the educational experience of all. We use Key Stage 4 data to inform minimum Sixth Form targets but add ”challenge” to these targets. All students know and work towards their Sixth Form target grades and parents receive regular progress information.
Our students are active every year in raising money for a variety of chosen causes, often in fun ways!
Many of our students also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
