Healthy Eating in the Sixth Form Café
We now have a Sixth Form only eating area in the Common Room, with the winning name of ‘The Munch and Crunch Café’ (chosen by Ben Lockhart). The café sells a range of wholesome hot and cold snacks from 9.30am to 2.30pm and has a real coffee machine which is proving popular with students. Our caterers have moved to a sQuid cashless catering system for the Sixth Form. Students have had their biometric identification taken and can now top up their sQuid accounts online. |

UCAS Update for Year 13
Most of our Year 13 students who wish to progress to university next year completed the UCAS application form to meet our internal deadline of 21 October. These students’ applications have now all been individually checked by Mrs Harris and Mrs Smith and students have been advised on the changes they should make where necessary. Once the changes have been made, the UCAS applications will be sent. Many universities start to make offers as soon as they have received the application which is exciting! However, many leave it until the last minute which is the end of March 2010. The process is as follows:
• UCAS deadline for application: 15 January.
• Most universities make offers (Conditional Acceptance, Acceptance or Rejection) by 31 March 2010.
• Students will receive notification from UCAS that all their offers are ‘in’ and are given a date to reply by. This date is different for each student so is not one we can remind them about!
• Students must narrow down their choices at that stage to two:
a FIRM (number one choice) and a CONDITIONAL (number two choice).
This is a contract.
• Then students must work hard to get the grades required and wait for results day!
Finance
All student finance for universities is now dealt with through Student Finance England. There are no details regarding costs for 2010-11 yet, but as soon as these are calculated we will let you know. |

Next Steps
If any students still need help or advice with their next steps, particularly if they are not going directly to university please ask– we are very keen to ensure everyone leaves with their future carefully planned.
Student Council and Children in Need
Lauren Maltby and the Sixth Form Student Council lead a range of activities on Friday 20 November to raise money for Children in Need. This follows our great tradition of supporting those less fortunate than ourselves through fund-raising in the Sixth Form. Whole school photos |
For Parents
Reporting on your child’s progress
You will have just received a Working At Grade progress report showing grades for each of your son/daughter’s subjects.
Each student is ‘mentored’ through 1:1 discussion with the teacher in all subjects as part of this process of assessment and should have detailed targets to meet in order to make improvements.
If you need further information at any time to help support your son/daughter reach their potential, please do not hesitate to contact subject teachers or the Sixth Form team. |
