Dear Student
Dear Students and Parents
I am very pleased to offer you more information about our excellent Sixth Form and the range of courses and wider experiences that we offer our students.
In this prospectus, you will see the very extensive list of academic and vocational courses available to choose from, which are mainly at level 3 (A levels and equivalent), reflecting the destination of the majority of students to universities and other higher education establishments. However, university admissions tutors and employers are looking for more than academic and vocational success – they want young people who have a range of outside interests, who show initiative and enterprise, who are involved in voluntary and community activity and who play sport and music.
The Sixth Form is designed to ensure high quality exam results, as well as providing additional opportunities for every student to gain the experiences and involvement to become confident, happy and well-rounded young adults, with genuine choice in choosing the next step. The Sixth Form provides a very good preparation for the next step, beyond school, through the teaching and tutoring of our very well qualified and experienced staff.
We are proud of the successes of all of our Sixth Form students and hope that you find information in this prospectus to interest you and we look forward to meeting you at our Open Evening.
If you choose Banbury Sixth Form, you have our professional expertise and successful experience of nearly 40 years to trust in.
Dr Fiona B Hammans
There are very good reasons why I am proud to present Banbury Sixth Form in this prospectus and why I am delighted you are considering us as the place for your future studies.
Our Sixth Form is a vibrant, friendly and comfortable environment where students achieve highly, make good friends, contribute to their community and take part in a wide range of extra curricular activities. You can be sure that you will be challenged during your time here and leave with qualifications and experiences that will place you very well for your future.
We have a strong academic track record, offer a wide range of courses to suit different learners and provide excellent support through mentoring, Higher Education and careers guidance. 42% of all A Level examinations sat last summer were a grade A or B and the majority of our students have gone on to University studying a huge variety of courses. We have had excellent top-end performance again this year with students accepted at many of the most prestigious universities in the UK as shown in this prospectus. We have also had a very good overall pass rate - 96%, showing that your
chances of finishing and passing your qualifications are extremely high, whatever you study.
As it shows on the pages to follow, we are able to offer you a choice of different ‘pathways’ to help make it easier for you to navigate the different qualifications we offer. All the details are explained on this website, but to get a real taste of the courses we offer we would like to invite you to our Open Evening on Thursday 15 October from 6-8pm. At this event you will be able to attend a presentation by myself and you and your parents will be able to meet staff and students and view our facilities.
I believe that you, the student, should be at the centre of all we aim for. I am very pleased to support the activities of our Student Council, led by our two Principal Students because the Council brings life, fun and new ideas to shape the students’ experience of their own Sixth Form.
I very much look forward to meeting you, introducing you to our staff and students and showing you all we have to offer
